According to Global Intranet Trends for 2009 Report: Today’s intranet model is unsustainable

Congrats to Jane McConnell, French/American intranet and portal expert, and her extended team for making another significant contribution to the intranet field with the release of the Global Intranet Trends for 2009 Report.

As with previous years’ reports, this one is full of interesting findings. I’m certain many intranet practitioners agree, that the intranet models as we know it must change. Other key findings include the detection of some progress on strategy and decision-making. However, there still seems to be a general lack of focus on people. Also, the majority of employee directories do not reflect the way organisations work today.

We have actively encouraged our many intranet members and customers to join her survey, and I was honoured that Jane decided to present the initial findings at jboye08, our recent web and intranets conference in Aarhus. Among other things she announced that intranets are still only considered essential in 1 out of 5 organisations.

The 123-page report includes over 120 clear charts and a detailed overview of the consolidated data from the 226 organisations around the world who participated in the survey. New this year is an interesting chapter on SharePoint 2007 adoption.

If you are a J. Boye member or customer and interested in buying the report, please contact us for a discounted rate.

Once again, congrats to Jane, who I’m sure is now both excited to have the report out, and will now no doubt be in need of some well deserved sleep!

Join our full day seminar, the International Intranet Day, on March 24 in Copenhagen, to learn from case studies from several organisations and network with other intranet professionals.
