Percussion says goodbye to Rhythmyx

Reading vendor press releases can be very interesting. Sometimes the significant news is not in the headline, but further down in the text. This was definitely the case when I earlier this week read a recent press release from Percussion on additional management depth. Last month on the CMS Watch blog I commented on the fact that Percussion had been quiet for almost half a year.

Now things are happening and according to the vendor, the main story is a few promotions. What I found really interesting was that Rhythmyx is disappearing, at least as a name. To quote the press release:

…the company has developed a new strategy which includes packaging the company’s product (the Percussion Content Management System, formerly known as Rhythmyx), solutions (Personalization, Community Marketing and Analytics) and services.

This may just be a simple name change. Percussion CMS is certainly easier to spell and the name actually also says something about the actual product. It may also be a sign that more products and solutions are coming from Percussion. Or Perhaps a clever way to mask slow product development?

When I met Percussion earlier this week at Online Information in London, they certainly seemed upbeat and in good shape. What’s your take on the recent developments at Percussion?
