Information management: What are best practices?

October 27th, 2010 by Dorthe Jespersen | , , , , , , | No Comments

Erik HartmanConfused about how to address your digital strategy? Got the technology in place, but don’t know how to really manage the processes, content and information, even though you were promised that the technology would take care of that?

It’s no wonder you are confused. And you are not alone. The field of information management is currently fractured and incoherent. Each sub discipline (content, document, asset, records, data management to name just a few) has its own practitioners, applications and professional communities.

To reduce confusion, Erik Hartman, speaker at the J. Boye Conference Aarhus 2010 and information management expert, is working on a framework for information. Along with content management guru, Bob Boiko, Erik has launched TIMAF (The Information Management Foundation). Each year, they collect examples and best practices in information management from organisations around the world.

At Aarhus 2010 Erik will release the first volume of information management best practices. It contains 19 examples, from organizations like Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, Essex County Council, Getronics, KPN, University of Washington, Wienerberger, World Bank, Telstra, Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, Harvard Business School, and the Canadian Department of National Defense.

This is high quality best practice guidance, written for and by experts in the Information Management field around the world. It brings complex models down to earth, with practical guidance on day-to-day problems and issues.

You’ll have a chance to discuss with Erik in his tutorial on how you include social media in your web strategy or his presentation on why you need to look for trouble in your web projects.

What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to information management?

Web Idol – Back to Basics!

October 21st, 2010 by Lau Hesselbæk Andreasen | , | No Comments

The Web Idol contest has been the programme finale on the Wednesday every year – and will be so this year.

We do not have any sales pitches on the rest of the programme, but this session is the opportunity for the audience to enjoy brief comparative product demonstrations while participating vendors get to impress the audience with their goods and presentation style.

The 6 competing vendors this year are:

  1. Gentics
  2. Hippo
  3. Kentico
  4. Sitecore (Aarhus 09 and Aarhus 08 winner – view  the winning demo)
  5. Telerik
  6. Terminalfour (Philadelphia 10 winner – view the winning demo)

As always, the audience will vote and select the winner. In order to make it more relevant for the audience and also ensure that they have a “like-for-like” basis for comparison when voting, each contestant will have to complete a list of a few everyday web tasks. Each contestant will have a maximum of 5 minutes to complete the tasks, and they will be briefed on those tasks in advance of the conference.
If the contestants are able to complete the tasks in less than 5 minutes, they are free to “freestyle” for the remainder of the time – and impress audience and judges by demonstrating other features.

Our panel of knowledgeable judges will this year consist of

Sitecore is the defending champ from Aarhus 09 and Aarhus 08. Will they win once again this year? Will the winning vendor wear a hat? The best part is: you vote for the winner!

How to introduce collaboration features on your intranet

October 15th, 2010 by Dorthe Jespersen | , , , , , | No Comments

Enterprise 2.0, the social intranet, and the collaborative organisation are buzzwords. Expectations are high, but real benefits can be difficult to find.

This is what Frank Wolf from T-Systems will address in his talk on the collaboration track at the J. Boye Conference Aarhus 2010. How do you take the best from both worlds: Can you create a social intranet with real business benefits? Frank will share his early-adopter experiences in trying to move intranets into highly interactive conversation and collaboration platforms.

Meanwhile, at the WWF, the collaborative intranet is a reality. Neil Morgan, global intranet Manager, will share the secret to their success. His approach includes starting small and scaling up quickly to help with engagement and adoption. One key advice includes involving users directly before launching any new tool:

You cannot start to collaborate online if you do not know the people you are collaborating with. Therefore what must precede the launch of any tool is to actually bring the group together for a conference call, video conference or face-to-face meeting to figure out the best way of working together. This is important in establishing the trust need to collaborate effectively, regardless the solution.

Neil Morgan, global intranet manager, WWFIncreased collaboration of course introduces new challenges for the intranet manager, which Neil will provide you with an answer to. How do you:

  • Establish seamless access and search across your virtual workspaces and the rest of the intranet?
  • Solve the problem of where to find the information ? How to manage a 1000 blooming flowers?
  • Maintain the momentum for your collaborative workspaces?

Are you integrating collaboration with your intranet?
