Vendor selection and implementation of an integrated CMS and DAM solution

Case: Oticon

Track: Web content management
Conference Day #2, Thursday November 4th, 16.00-17.00

Last year, Oticon decided to select a new CMS that would better meet our future requirements and business objectives on the web.

As a joint IT-Marketing effort, we went through a good vendor selection process, followed by a tight and complex implementation project. We have many positive learnings from that project, that I would like to share.

A central document in the vendor selection process was our Request For Proposal, that clearly lined out our business objectives and intended usage scenarios. Potential vendors were asked to describe how they would help us meet our business objectives and how their proposed solution would solve the usage scenarios.

The vendor selection process contained evaluation elements such as workshops, written quotes and price updates, and the order of each element proved important for our negotiation position.

Due to changing project goals, each adding complexity and shortening the implementation time, we were left with only 2½ month to implement a new CMS, integrate with a new DAM, and implement a new multi-language website. Three vendors were involved together with three internal project teams. How we were able to make it in due time for the deadline will be revealed.
