Presentation

Creating a new University web - 1,5 years later: what problems do we face?

Case: University of Bergen

Track: Higher education
Conference Day #2, Thursday November 4th, 10.30-12.00

The project of building a unified website for the University of Bergen (2006-2009)was a success in many ways: A common profile was established. A new cms was developed and taken into use by all 290 units at the university. The "target audience"-perspective was distributed throughout the organisation. A common url policy was introduced. There was a huge cleanup in old web pages/servers. Overall, the web project united the university units across departments and traditions.

Yet, 1,5 years after launching  the new university site, we faces great challenges: The content lacks quality. The target groups are slowly forgotten. For many departments, the web pages seems almost a forgotten field of work. While some departments feels the unified web limits their potential for communicating through the web. What went wrong? Why did it happen? And what can we do to make it work?
