Conference Day #2, Thursday November 4th, 16.00-17.00

Ten years ago an editor from Cnet UK declared that we are in the "IT Business". These words have always come back to me when working with editorial development. Having a journalistic background as a reporter and online editor to now working with developing the online business of Jyllands-Posten has proven these words to be correct. We have no chance in developing our online product without the skills and knowledge about effective IT development. IT is the underlying foundation for online media and is often a competitive factor.

During the past three years Jyllands-Posten has gone from having one or two developers and a webmaster to have a development department with around 20 people. During this transformation we have tried to make a setup that is flexible enough to the demands of the news beat without jeopardizing quality and stability of the services.

During this time editors and journalists has learned word as dist, scrum, backlog and sprint. Agile development is much fitted for media companies. A framework like scrum has proven very helpful to manage the development on the verge of chaos without falling into it.
