IT Strategist, Västra Götalandsregionen
Kristian has been working with intranet and internet portals and websites in many different roles, each with its own challenges. Starting out as an non-techie communications officer, where the web was only one of many communication channels ending up as an IT strategist trying to forecast what role web technology will play in Region Västra Götaland 5-10 years from now. Combining that with practical hands-on work, by launching usable services today.
In between these seemingly different aspects of intranet/internet use Kristian has been working as a communications manager, project manager, infomaster and webmaster. Always seeing web technology as an enabler for making everyday work in the organisation just a little better, step by step.
Early on Kristian realized that web standards made the web based services of yesterday work in today’s and tomorrows browsers. In recent years his interest in web standards has spread to providing findability with the help of metadata, semantics and better usability and spreading the work of his organisation as Open Source.
Kristian holds a Bachelor of Science in International Relations and Media and Communications studies atGöteborg University. He’s been snowboarding all over the alps since 1990, he enjoys any place with a few decimeters of fresh powder and loads of vertical meters.
Region Västra Götaland has 1.5 million inhabitants, and is located in the south western part of Sweden. Göteborg is the biggest city. Region Västra Götaland is governed by democratically elected politicians and with just over 50,000 employees is one of Sweden’s biggest employers, about 85% of the workforce is in working in healthcare. The Region is tasked with offering good healthcare and dental care and providing the prerequisites for good public health, a rich cultural life, a good environment, jobs, research, education and good communications.

Conference Day #2, Thursday November 4th, 13.00-14.00
To use search analytics to get a grasp of which good content your website or intranet contains is not new. But if search analytics could be used to find the hidden gems on your intranet, and find information that is duplicated, or outdated wouldn't that be great? "Lies, damned lies, and statistics", says it all. We find it hard to rely on search statistics and analytics alone. What about system automated governance? Indeed, the systems can help us with that, and in Kristian's organisation, they have used it as well but it is not sufficient, either.
Give the users the ability to give feedback, is the one simple thing that helps a lot. At Region Västra Götaland, implementations are influenced by and based on what they consider best practice from other organsations. They have some basic functionality that really helps them govern the content of their intranets and websites:
Kristian will share what they have learnt on their way to better governance, how they have done it and also tell the good and bad, the do's and don'ts.
