Biography

Brian Kaupa

Brian is a seasoned IT leader with experience in all facets of Application Development, from writing code to building successful Agile teams from scratch. Most recently, Brian directed a 40-member application development team (including Business System Analysts, Designers, Developers, Architects, and Quality Assurance Analysts) to redesign his company’s flagship clinical management system. To meet the company’s aggressive deadline while still producing a high quality product, he introduced and implemented Agile project management methodologies. Brian simultaneously championed a renewed focus on application usability estimated to save the company >$5M annually.

Prior to WellPoint, Brian built and led a talented enterprise portal team at Circuit City.

Brian tends to take an agnostic approach when it comes to solutions integration. Since no one vendor has developed a “silver bullet” application to an organization’s internal challenges, he seeks out “best in class” solutions, including open source, that effectively solve specific needs and then leverages enterprise standards for integration. This approach has the added benefit of quickly swapping out a vendor’s product should it fail to live up to expectations
