Digital Media and Usability Consultant, The California Endowment
Julio Luis Zaldivar brings a diverse background in design, user interface engineering, and information architecture to The California Endowment team. His current role at TCE focuses on utilizing new technology to create applications, such as CalConnect, that support The Endowment’s new strategic direction. His primary responsibilities lie in defining and managing the user experience – how applications and websites flow, look, and interact with their intended audience.
Julio’s emphasis on “functional design” reflects a firm belief that successful sites and software should not only provide beauty and simplicity of use, but also maintain a fluid workflow with user centered focus.
California Endowment is a not-for-profit foundation with $3.4 billion assets under management. The foundation primarily focuses on healthcare issues including access to health care, and health and well-being in California. It was founded in 1996 and is based in Los Angeles, California.

Can different groups and organizations that usually don’t work with each other but have similar objectives take advantage of the Social Web and create an environment where they can network and collaborate on policies, grant writing, events and project initiatives? The California Endowment selected fourteen communities as the participants in its CalConnect site, giving each community its own designated section on the new social network.
Although still in its early stages, CalConnect has already provided many valuable lessons, and gives a hint of things to come in using the Social Web for community action and to help people connect and work together across local communities and statewide.
