Mobile marketing brings challenges and opportunities to higher education at a time when scarce resources limit the ability to add new technologies and techniques to communication plans.
In a pre-conference tutorial on Tuesday, May 3rd in Philadelphia titled Mobile Communication Challenges in Higher Education: Issues, Perils, Potential, higher education expert Bob Johnson has teamed up with Nathan Gerber, Director – Web Development Services from Utah Valley University to guide higher education delegates through a fast-paced workshop.
Expert view on mobile strategies
Bob will start the workshop by examining the higher education mobile landscape, presenting and discussing examples of how universities large and small are adopting and implementing mobile strategies, with special attention to student recruitment.
Areas covered include designing for best task completion, writing right for mobile, and integrating with traditional websites and social media initiatives.
Real world mobile experiences
Nathan will subsequently share a case-study on creating a viable, effective mobile communication plan at Utah Valley University: what was done, why it was done, and the research that helped make the right decision.
Nathan also spoke at the Philadelphia 10 conference where he shared his view on building a winning web team. According to Nathan, a crucial ingredient in that recipe was governance – a much more important ingredient than technology! This is also the case, when it comes to implementing mobile marketing, even though it is very easy to get caught up in the technology.
Whether you have already embarked on mobile projects or are still at the very early stages, this workshop will provide you with tangible methods and experiences that you can bring home to your own institution and thus avoid re-inventing the wheel.
