Web analytics in higher education may still be in its infancy, but it’s rapidly becoming a necessity. Apart from mere reporting, actual analysis is what leadership craves. In a session on the higher education conference track, Shelby Thayer will share exactly how web analytics can help higher education.
Shelby is an online marketing and web strategist at Penn State Outreach, which is the largest unified outreach organization in American higher education. In this role she is responsible for web analytics, SEO, content strategy, and user experience.
Shelby’s presentation will span both the high-level – including building key performance indicators based on real business and website goals and the nitty gritty – including creating custom reports specifically designed for many of the limitations higher education faces. Shelby will make a passionate case for why leadership needs to make web analytics a priority – now.
Her personal blog, called Trending Upward, is a great resource when it comes to web analytics in higher education. To prepare for the conference, you can enjoy these 3 relevant postings:
- Results are in – State of Web Analytics in Higher Ed
- Using Google Analytics Events and Custom Reports to Help Track Off-Site Conversions

The J. Boye 11 conference in Philadelphia in May is the 1st J. Boye conference for Shelby and we’re excited to have her on the program.
