Conference Day #1, Wednesday May 4th, 10.15 am - 11.00 am
If you are interested in how you can be a better UX leader, then come listen as I entertain you with some mistakes I have made leading UX teams. The goals is to learn from my mistakes and avoid making them yourself.
With my background in business & industrial anthropology I will focus especially on cultural factors and how you as a UX leader can actively cultivate a UX culture that supports UX innovation as a strategic resource for the organization.
I will cover topics such as PROCESS - the importance of process and how to build a clear understandable process that work for your team, your division and for the company. I will cover the mistakes of perspective, communication, positioning that most UX teams make when they are documenting their process. PLACE - I will also talk about the importance of place - the studio as place and how it is more important than your process. How the design space and the objects in those spaces impact your teams work and success. I will detail the 5 most important objects to have in a good UX space. USABILITY TESTING - Even though it is good to do testing, how easy it is to get caught in using it as arbiter of design and what dangers are fraught down that garden path and what you need to do to avoid them.
I will cover the most common mistakes that I have made and I have seen others make. After this presentation you will come away with an awareness of these mistakes and solutions for how to avoid them or deal with them if you have already committed them.
